Lest We Forget – Remembering 100 years since WW1

11 Nov 2016

Sometimes when we have a little bit of downtime in the studio, we make short films to experiment with new styles and tell stories that are important to us. This is one such film – made by Katie Steed to honour and remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. We hope it speaks for itself, but here are the words that inspired it:

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

by John McCrae, May 1915

‘Lest we forget’ was made using a digital watercolour technique. The paintings were created in Photoshop and animated in After Effects.
