Bedfordshire University Animation Awards

We were honoured to present an award to the promising students at the Bedfordshire University Animation Degree show last night.

Congratulation to all students, and to Natalie Henry (Bounce Back) for best 2D Animation Award, and Anita Novak (When the Clock Strikes) for best Stop-Motion Award.

American Design Awards Honors

Slurpy are pleased and proud to announce today that we have received an award from the American Design Awards for the design of its Retro Tuckshop website. Our entry was among 25 sites chosen from a pool of over 2,000 entries.

This award is a great tribute to our hard work, dedication and creativity, especially since it comes from fellow design professionals at American Design Awards. This concludes a wonderful year for Slurpy, after our Music Video The Best Day We Ever Had toured the world’s animation festivals, and our multi award winning short film Death by Scrabble continued to garner praise and recognition.

The American Design Awards looks at and grades hundreds of web design entries each month in their Monthly Design Contest. Grading is based on creativity (40 points), effectiveness (30 points), and practicality (30 points), for a total of 100 points. Slurpy scored a total of 73 points.

Soccerex 09 Title Sequence – Sky Sports

We have just finished working on the title sequence for Soccerex 09, a documentary which follows the annual football conference in Johannesburg, South Africa. The show will be broadcast on Sky Sports 1, Sky Sports 2 and Sky Sports HD over the coming days.

The textures of the piece and the colours used reflect an African palette, because we felt it was important to combine the energy of the sport with the importance of the geographical location.

The documentary was produced by Graham Miller or Media Vu, and will be the last Soccerex confernce hosting in South Africa before next summers World Cup.

Wildchild Activity Animation Workshops

Late July and August saw us begin our animation workshops for Wildchild Activities. We take a group of 6-12 year olds and teach them the history and craft of animation in a day of activities, ranging from stop-motion to pixilation. As well as showing them how easy it is to animate at home with some plasticine and a digital camera, we teach the importance of simple character design, where they have a go at bringing their character to life.

HSOA Skydive Postponed

Unfortunately our sky dive for Harpenden Spotlight on Africa has been postponed until 30th September. But it has given us an extra month to raise the money. Our target was an ambitious £2000 and so far we have raised over £1400.

Jumping Out A Plane…For Africa!

On August 25th Aaron and Katie will both be jumping out of a plane 15,000 feet up to raise money for a local charity Harpenden Spotlight On Africa.

The charity aims to link the people of Harpenden with communities in sub-Saharan Africa to support local initiatives to alleviate poverty. We spend last Sunday morning at Harpenden Farmers Market rattling our tins and raising as much awareness as possible on the HSOA stall – see the photo below!
